Sustainability management

Economic success is an important factor in the MAN Group’s earning capacity. At the same time, sustainable success means ensuring conditions for profitable business are also secured for the future. These conditions are not only characterized by the economic environment, but also by ecological and social issues. Throughout its history, MAN has only been able to operate successfully in an intact environment and with social acceptance for what the company is about; this will also be essential if MAN is to enjoy a profitable future. The recent alarming status reports have placed the climate debate at the forefront of the sustainability discussion. As a company whose core expertise involves transport-related engineering, the MAN Group is conscious of its special responsibilities. Sustainable corporate management aims to combine the requirements of a mobile society and an increasingly global, transport-oriented economy with protection of the environment and resources.

In 2009 the Executive Board of the MAN Group decided to implement systematic sustainability management and to appoint a Corporate Responsibility Manager. First tasks will include the definition of a company-wide sustainability strategy with quantifiable objectives, and based on this a structure for implementing the strategy. The first results will be published in the 2009 Sustainability Report.
